| Age: | 52 | | Background: | Darran McCarthy has been involved in the dance music scene since its early days.
Darran saw the scene develop from the early M25 raves to what it is today.
He began his mixing career in 1994 when after buying records for many years he decided it was time to put them to good use and buy some Turntables.
He quickly gathered a following in his home town of Maidstone in Kent UK and shortly secured a regular spot at Vogues in Sittingbourne UK playing Drum and Bass alongside the likes of Kenny ken and DJ Dready to name but a few.
At this time he decided to make the move to the city of London to further his exposure, he soon found his feet and was starting to get recognition with the help of DJ Protocol (Eruption FM/Kool FM).
Unfortunately, London was not kind to Darran and his equipment and tunes were stolen.
After this musical tragedy, he lost faith in the scene he was in and decided to take a break from all things Drum and Bass. He moved back to Kent UK and enjoyed the quiet life for 2 years. It was after this break, he changed his musical direction and in 2000 he paid a visit to the White Isle ''Ibiza''.
It was here he found inspiration from the likes of Steve Lawler, Sasha and Digweed. He decided a move from Kent was in order. Manchester UK was the city he decided to make his home, it was here that his interest in DJ’ing was re-ignited at Manchester’s premier clubs, Sankeys Soap & Tangled where the world best DJ’s grace the turntables.
After discussion with a friend they formed a business partnership Avant-Garde Entertainment was the end result, and after purchasing new equipment Darran McCarthy the Progressive DJ was born. Darran is currently working on a project under the Avant-Garde banner for a club night in the city and his name is starting to make waves.
