Twisted Ice @ SEOne, 7 February

Reported by els / Submitted 16-02-04 18:37

The massive SEOne is a wicked club venue and with the right line up pretty much guarantees a good night. We arrived just after 11pm when kilt wearing Craig Paxton was knocking out some chunky beats in the main room to get the early crew going. The atmosphere was already buzzing as we put our coats in and headed straight to the dancefloor. There seemed to be some problems with the sound as Craig wrapped up but I clocked pretty quickly it was just the build up to the break in Cafe del Mar (doh!).

Tara Reynolds took over the helm with a high energy set that didn’t seem as hard as usual but it was only 11.30 so probably a bit early to be spinning anything too fast. Marco V - Loops and Tings dropped and the SEOne exploded into a mass of light and lasers. Tara mixed in DK8’s - Murder was the Bass letting things calm down before taking it right up again - the tease.

With the DJ booth so high up you generally only saw outlines of the DJs as the smoke and lights made it difficult to see much of what they were doing. Personally I think it was a bit of a bad move as the DJs weren’t able to interact as much as they do at places like the Fridge or Camden Palace but it didn’t stop anybody from having it.

A quick step into the trance room showed it was fairly quiet compared to the main room but it didn’t put Dom Pardey off one bit. He was trancing it up big time and loving every second. In fact, it was hard to tell who was enjoying it more, Dom or the people who had actually paid money to see him play!

Back in the main room, Nick Sentience came on at 2am playing a dark set. Nick’s new album ‘Universal Language’ is out in a few weeks so I wondered if this was the kind of thing we could expect. Malice in Wonderland kicked in which is one of my current faves and loads of other peoples too judging by the storming reception it got. Nick cranked up the BPMs towards the end of his set readying the turntables for Ed Real.

Ed played hard and fast, proper stomp material which was exactly what we needed by 3am. Karim’s - I Got the Power and the Roosta remix of Breathless were highlights and kept us going before Ed stepped down to make way for James Lawson.

At this point I decided I needed a rest and wandered off towards the back of the main room to find somewhere to sit. One of the best things about SEOne is there’s always plenty of room to sit, chill and chat or just take time out from the madness. The toilets have also been cleaned up massively since I was last there which is always a bonus. I must’ve spent longer than I thought sat down as the next time I got up to dance was to a remix of Tony de Vit’s - The Dawn which turned out to be James’ final tune.

Final set of the night was Lisa Lashes who never fails to impress me with her tune selection and her perfect mixing. Dropping ‘What Can You Do For Me?’ must’ve been such a buzz for her, playing her own tune and getting such an immense response must completely spin her out. Lashes treated us to an extra fifteen minutes worth of tunage before finishing the night with ‘99.9’ and Little Louis’ ‘French Kiss’.

Twisted wasn’t as busy as I expected it to be despite the heavyweight line up but every DJ exceeded my expectations and the atmosphere was electric as usual. The fact it wasn’t rammed made it more enjoyable in some ways, for once I could dance without worrying about knocking someone out!

'Twas indeed a wicked party...

The great thing about SEOne is that its such a massive club that even with a few thousand people in it, theres still space to dance without someone standing on your toes!

Aw, reading that's just brought it all back! What a wicked night. Was absolutely torn between the trance room and the main room. A highlight was remembering to watch Lashes (usually a bit forgetful by the end of the night) and being very pleasantly surprised! Can't wait for the next Twisted!

Soo upset that I missed this (what sounds like) banging party, proud that Lisa rocked it again, she never fails to impress me!!
