Lashed 3rd Birthday preview with promoter Roman

Lisa Lashes and her Lashed brand continued to grow exponentially in 2005. Lashed compilations, radio shows, digital downloads and of course massive parties all helped to keep her name at the forefront of hard dance, and increasingly in the breaks world too. However, this wouldn’t have been possible without the work of one Roman Trsytam — co-promoter of Lashed and general hardworking legend at the world-famous Ornadel Management & Mainstage Artists company, who look after artists as diverse as Eric Prydz, BK, Tall Paul, Ferry Corsten and Ali B.
Roman was previously interviewed for this site in October of last year in the run-up to Lashed on November 5th. A year on, we met up again as we draw closer to the massive Lashed 3rd Birthday Xmas bash at The Emporium in Coalville in the Midlands this Saturday 17th December. One of the few mainly hard dance-orientated parties to actually try something other than the usual formula, Lashed combines cutting edge hard dance line-ups with a room full of premier league breakbeat DJs, as well as the hottest up and coming breaks and house DJs from around the country. Intrigued? You should be!
Hi there Roman. Last time we spoke to you, the Lashed crew and yourself were gearing up for a massive Bonfire Night party at Heaven in London. How has the Lashed brand faired since then? What’s changed?
Everything has been going really well to be honest, mainly touring the world and be going to some really exciting places and general getting the Lashed name out there to new clubbers. Changes I think come in the form of trying to push the envelope some what with the music policies, trying to combine elements of breaks more into the 2nd room and also wanting to play new, up and coming DJs.
Lisa Lashes herself — how has her career evolved over the last 12 months?
Much the same really, Lashed is an extension of Lisa so the 2 going pretty much hand in hand. Lisa has been doing a lot of new material which is due for release over the next few months and also developing new projects just as Lisa’s Digital Downloads, merchandise and generally get there, playing gigs and entertaining the fans! Oh and occasionally getting banned from hotels! haha.
Have you taken on much other new work at Ornadel this year or have you stuck with the usual bizness?
Things are never usual that is for sure... I know have the pleasure of working with Fergie from Radio 1 and let me tell you, there is never a dull moment!
Roman & Fergie — best not to ask...
So we’ve got the next instalment of Lashed coming up this Saturday… prey tell Roman, prey tell!
Well what would you like to know? That it’s the only Christmas party in the land that combines all the biggest names in the hard dance and the breaks scene, it’s from 8pm till 6am, we have over 20 sexy Santa Lashettes and ticket are selling fast than a fast thing that is very fast! Lisa going to be doing her now legendary breaks set along side Rennie Pilgrem and Freq Nasty, one to watch — these guys battling it out!
Who decides on the line-ups, and what criteria are used?
Lisa and I spend a fair bit of time trying to come up with some new and excited to other event of this nature, and Ii really think with have pushed the boat in Room 2. It’s a true honour to get Rennie and Freq on a hard dance line up and just can’t wait to see it go nuts in that room, and to see the looks of people talking about this and how different it is...
Which DJs are you particularly excited about seeing?
Well all of them but I doubt I will get the time, usually running around like a headless chicken making sure everything is ok... But BK is always new and exciting, love RobTissera and his unique way to drop anthems that you just forgot about… but he slams it right back at you… and just seeing the buzz when Lisa goes on, it makes it all worth while that is for sure....
Why did you choose the Emporium for this event?
2 years ago will held our first party there and sold out, it was simply amazing and the club is great, one of the best venues in the Midlands if not the UK! Plus Lisa is from around the area so it's always been special playing at The Emporium.
Roman & Lisa Lashes
From past experience, how have the DJs from outside the hard dance scene found the Lashed events to be? It’s not something your average breaks DJ would normally attend for instance…
I think it always hard at the beginning to go outside of the box and convince people and DJs to play when they have been from outside that particular field, but after time you build people’s trust and know DJs and clubbers know they are not going to get any normal night out — and why should they!
Who are you close with in the music industry?
It’s all one big happy family, we are all close in one way or another...
Are there any other areas of the industry that you haven’t worked in before that you’d like to?
Well I don’t DJ, well not unless I am drunk and it’s my birthday! But I don’t really want to unless there was a good wedding to play at...
Which DJs and producers have really excited you really? When was the last time the hairs stood up on the back of your neck when in a club?
There is a lot of exciting stuff coming through from Sweden, Germany but the last time I really thought wow, was on tour with Lisa in New Zealand — the Auckland clubbers know how to party that is for sure. Here in the UK I always have a great time in really unusual clubs or afterhour places that no-one really talks about...
Who would you like to see succeed in 2006? Who deserves it?
I have to say that a lot of the hard dance DJs don’t really get the recognition they deserve…they are among some of the hardest working, and the fans are incredible but the press and commercial market don’t really dig it, which often then is shown in the lack of respect the DJs, producers and clubbers are shown by other musical fields but I guess that is there loss. So it would have to go the hard dance scene as a whole and long may it continue to be underground — all heroes in my eyes!
And finally, what will you be doing when the clock strikes 12 on New Year’s Eve?
New Year’s Eve, is it that time already?! Bl**dy hell I best get down the shopping and start buying some xmas presents for you all! NYE at 12 o'clock it has to be fun, friendly…
Thanks to Roman for the pics.

LASHED 3RD BIRTHDAY PARTY & XMAS PARTY @ THE EMPORIUM, COALVILLE
Not content with a blistering summer schedule that’s taken in festivals, decadent destinations and a full tour of the UK, Lisa Lashes has had her passport stamped as heavily as the dance floors she rocks with an epic one-woman world tour that’s become a 30 date+ global party.
Lisa’s so far played her way through the UK, Ibiza, Ireland, Norway, Finland, China, Australia, Kuala Lumpur, Canada and New Zealand. The final leg will see Lisa get ooh la lashed in Paris before returning to the UK for a month of festive gigs throughout December, including Boxing Day parties in Aberdeen, Cardiff and London.
The big one is on 17th December at The Emporium, Coalville, for the Lashed 3rd birthday and Xmas party, a homecoming visit to the Midlands for a one-off bash that will further cement her position as the world’s leading female dance music figure.
Aside from her relentless tour schedule, Lisa has recently become a patron of the Pink Ribbon Trust. She joins fellow patrons at the breast cancer charity including Jerry Hall and actor, Joseph Fiennes. She recently DJed at a Trust party in London, and will embark on a series of fund-raising initiatives for the charity - the first of which will be the Lashed party in Coalville.
