WiLDCHiLD Kicks off 2006 @ Heaven: Little Gem interviews Lisa Lashes

Reported by Little Gem / Submitted 20-01-06 18:59

It's been a whole year since we last ventured into the wonder that is Heaven… back on 4th Feb 2005 to be precise! This date also marks the last time we had the pleasure of having a certain Miss Lashes to play for us… and what an event it was! As our first event of 2005, it promised to be special… we had the perfect venue, we'd enlisted the talents of Lisa as well as hosting the Lashed album tour, we also had a whole host of the finest DJs… and it was my debut in the main room! What more could you want, hehe! Well, the event was a sell out success and one that has remained lodged in my memory all year!

So one year on, with the next WiLDCHiLD event in our midst on 10th Feb, it seems very fitting that we're holding it at Heaven - back where we belong many have said! And, with the anniversary of Lisa returning to us, we thought what better than for me to speak with her to find out exactly what she's been up to in the last year, what she's looking forward to at the event…. and what we got up to last time!

Hi Lisa, hope you had a lovely Christmas and New Year! Are you over eaten, over indulged and feeling the effects, or were you a good girl over Christmas?!

Yeah I did over indulge a bit, that’s why I planned my holiday after Xmas to get some sunshine and rest in South Africa .

Did you have much time to enjoy yourself over the festive period, or was it work, work, work?

It was a mix of both really. I spent Xmas quietly with family and friends at home which was really nice. On Boxing Day, I played in Belfast at Planet Love Winter Party which was great, then a private jet flew me to Liverpool to get to The Syndicate's big night in Blackpool.

Any New Years resolutions?? Go on, you can tell me!

More decadent Lashed parties and music!

Ok, so down to business… you’re heading down the M1 to come visit us when we return to Heaven for our first event of 2006. It’s been a whole year since you last played at WiLDCHiLD on 4th Feb 2005, so what are you most looking forward to… apart from me bringing you the usual abundance of wine!

Wildchild is one the best parties in London. I always have a wicked time — and that’s not just because of the wine! The line up is always very high standard and the crowd is wicked. I’m very happy to be back.

If my memory serves me correctly I think one of the biggest tunes you played that night, was the cheeky booty of Nirvana ‘Smells Like Teen Spirit’. What tunes are up your sleeve this time?

Yeah it’s a great cover by BK, always works a treat. I like to drop a few unexpected records in my sets like ‘Sweet Dreams’ by the Eurythmics or ‘Let’s Dance’ by David Bowie. Who knows what I’ll slip in at Wildchild..?!

You’ve always gone down extremely well with our crowd at WiLDCHiLD, and last years event was no exception… with us both taking to the stage for a boogie, if you remember! Will there be a repeat performance this year? I’m game if you are!!

You know me… always up for a boogie! The last gig was great fun!!

Last year I had the pleasure of playing before you, which was a bit of a personal achievement on my part! Would you say you’ve achieved everything you want to, or are there still things on your list that you haven’t yet done?

I’ve achieved a lot but there’re still loads more I want to do. That’s what drives you, if you think you’ve see and done it all then there’s no point in carrying on. I want to play in places I’ve never been to be before, come up with more new ideas with Lashed, make more records… I’m still passionate about my job as when I first started.

I’ve been smashing your collaboration with Ingo ‘Desire’, which you’ll be pleased to know I’ve featured on my disc of the forthcoming WiLDCHiLD album! What do you have planned for 2006 on the production front?

I’ve done some breaks tracks which have been getting a lot of good responses. So that’s really motivating. I will be releasing material on my new digital radio, Lashed Digital Downloads – check out my website www.djlisalashes.com for exclusive tracks to come out soon.

You’ve had some massive releases over the years, do you have a favourite of all your productions and do you still play them?

I really like my 2 latest releases to tell you the truth, ‘Desire’ and ‘Temptation’. I play them out all the time.

2005 has seen your ‘Lashed’ brand gain massive success all over the world as well the UK. Where has been your favourite country to visit and what makes it so special?

China was absolutely amazing this year. It totally blew my expectations. The crowds were fantastic, they are wild! I definitely want to go back there more.

What do you think makes ‘Lashed’ go down so well?

I think it's done so well because we have always put as much effort as possible on quality. This is true for our music policy and production (decor, performances etc.). Clubbers who go to a Lashed night know that it will be a great night. And we always keep an open mind about the music. We will have a brilliant line up in each room. For our Xmas Lashed party, we had Rennie Pilgrem and Freq Nasty in the breaks room and in the hard room me, BK, Rob Tissera and Paul Glazby.

What would you say has been your highlight of 2005?

It has to be the Lashed World Tour: I played in 30 different clubs in Europe, Asia, Australia, New Zealand and America. Never done anything like it before.

What are you most looking forward to in 2006… apart from seeing us lovely WiLDCHiLD peeps in Feb, of course!?

Touring the UK and Ireland as part of the Lashed Digital Downloads Tour. After the world tour, I’m happy to be back in some of my favourite British clubs. I’m also looking forward to the release of a Lashed mixed CD this Spring and doing production work for Lashed Digital Downloads.

Ok, time for a girly quick fire round one on one!

Hair: straight or curly?

Lisa — Straight. And I am famous for changing my hair colour from red to green to all sorts!

Gem — It’s naturally curly but I wear it both ways – complete with blue streaks of course!

Nails: real or fake?

Lisa — Real. I love having manicures.

Gem — All fake I’m afraid… I have them done every 2 weeks!!!

Clothes: designer or high street?

Lisa — Both. I like All Saints, Maharishi and ByBloss.

Gem — Bit of both really. I love designer, but I do love a bargain!!

Shoes: heels or flats?

Lisa — Heels all the way!

Gem – Got to be heels… I can’t reach the decks otherwise!

Make up: lots or natural?
Lisa — I love make-up. I couldn’t live without my Mac make-up.

Gem — Lots! I love make up!!!

Drink: wine or beer?

Lisa — Wine, if not champagne!

Gem — Defo Wine! I think everyone knows that though!

We’re done! Thanks so much for your time Lisa… looking forward to seeing you in Feb! Wine at the ready!

You can catch Lisa Lashes play WiLDCHiLD back at Heaven on 10th Feb 2006. Don’t miss it!!!
