Not just similar but Identikal

It's going to to be a busy year for Dan Identikal. With a major role in the running of tech and hard trance label Vision Control and the monthly mayhem down in Brighton with Hard South at the Honey club he's a guy with plenty on his musical plate. On the 2nd of April he teams up with the Thirsty Thursday crew for some action at Thirst so we saw the opportunity to pump him thoroughly for information.

You run new dance label Vision Control. Who have you worked with on setting the label up and what are you trying to achieve with your label?

It’s been great so far, and I’ve been fortunate enough to get Phil Reynolds, Thr3shold and Matt Church on board. They are all really good at what they do and always coming up with new directions of where to take the label so we're working on creating a new sound for two genres of dance music, tech trance/hard trance and on occasion releasing some uplifting trance by the scenes finest up and coming producers. That’s the aim!

Tell us about the different areas you’ll be covering with the label and who is looking after each section?

Yeah sure, Myself, Phil and Matt will be co directing the label with each other, Phil’s the man in charge of the tech trance side and that’s anything from the A&R side to his own tech trance releases and general management. Matt’s on the promotion and sales side and has been designing what needs to be done for the future releases, Thr3shold are doing brilliantly for us in signing the best in upfront hard trance so they're dealing with everything hard, As for myself I'm dealing with networking and marketing, so combined it’s a great team to be on.

What made you choose these people for the label?

I think all of us on the label have good experience in getting this label to work. I think it was created really through all of our passion for what we do so that’s why I can see it being a strong label in the future and although it is a business it’s good to be mates as well, so that makes our decisions a lot easier because we're all on the same wavelength.

What choice tracks do you have coming up and where can punters get their hands on them?

Releases are currently being processed at the moment and we are going to be ready to fire around February, we’ve already had one release on trackitdown.net for “Drifting” (Daniel Loubscher) and we are over the moon that we’ve had the support on our tracks from the likes of Tiesto, Matt Darey, Pierre Pienaar and Scott Project. You can expect tracks from the likes of Jorden Suckley, Phil Reynolds, Acute, Vodka, Thr3shold, Liam Melly Adriz and they’ll be released once a month so you can expect a 1 tech and 1 hard trance release with the occasional Label Sampler to look forward to.

What key things are the various Vision Control labels looking for when signing tracks?

Driving, good quality, inspiring tracks. As most labels do, we are promoting the artist as well as their music, if we get good tracks to work with it makes the promotion better on both parts.

You produce yourself and have worked with some key people in the scene. What do you think has been the most important thing to your development as a producer?

The more I’ve progressed in the scene has definitely made me more creative, I suppose it’s just getting out there amongst the music, and listening to some of the tech trance being produced has certainly helped me understand the direction I want to go with my own productions.

What equipment do you use and what is your can’t do without bit of kit?

Fruity 8, it’s perfect for me till I get to grips with logic properly. For plugins I'm using V-Station for most things, I also have Nexus, Vanguard and the Vengence editions.

Vision Control also host a room at Hard South every month. How did that come about?

I’ve previously run an event in the past called Energize and that was also in Brighton. I'm good friends with two of the residents (Salerno & Drummer) and they basically put me forward to Nick the guy that runs hard south and mentioned I had idea’s and would be ideal for the label to have a respected event backing us, to help showcase vision releases and other big names and brands.

Who do you have lined up to grace The Honey Club decks?

I’ve been speaking to a few brands and labels about inviting them to grace the vision event and we’ve had a massive response. I'm looking forward to inviting Ian Betts label down for “Vision Invites Friendz” for a may/June showcase. Ben Nicky is another one who’s coming to play and we're also in talks with Nukleuz about bringing the Adrenaline Tour to the south coast, so that just a little taster into what’s happening in 2009.

How do you think clubbing on the shores of the English Channel in Brighton compares with the rest of the county?

It’s a mini Ibiza lol, as I grew up round here I’ve had some awesome nights seeing Tyas, Jules, Bond, Patterson which were all incredible. The good thing is in the summer you’ll do a full nights clubbing then you're already on the beach afterwards, perfect for a crack on and always helps having a good atmosphere.

We’ll be seeing you at HFs very own party TT in 2009 at a special TT vs Vision Control. Got any sneak peeks at what we can expect?

Tech Trance all the way 100%.

What else have you got lined up for 2009?

I’ve just kicked off the year with a guest mix on Kiss Fm which went down well and that was featured on Nikki Elise’s show. Vision Sessions starts soon on www.slinky.fm, Lee haslam was good enough to give Vision our own show from 6pm til 8pm every 2nd Friday which will be co-presented by myself and Phil Reynolds plus I’ve got the radio show with you guys from harderfaster coming up which again I can’t wait for and there’s our event each month Vision control @ Hardsouth which im sure will keep me busy. It’s been great so far and I hope it continues.

Hailing from the sunny climes of the South Coast - Vision Control are set to take on the trance world with some top quality talent at the helm leading the way forward. We’ve invited some of their key talent to show you how they do it every month at Hard South at The Honey Club, Brighton!

Label boss Dan Identikal has already seen releases on Nukleuz and Addiction and now has a string of future hits set to come out Vision Control Digital. Expect much from this tech trance starlet and while you are at it read our interview with the man in the features section!

Of course no link up with Vision Control would be complete in our eyes without TT Resident Phil Reynolds stepping in to spin a few tunes for you. Looking after A&R for Tech Trance sounds at VC, with his extensive experience on the international scene quality tracks are guaranteed.

Rounding off the Vision Control guests is Head of PR and Sales and Marathon nutter Matt Church. Some of you may remember his amazing back to back slots for us first in 2007 and again for last years HF Xmas Party – we certainly haven’t! We’re stoked to have him behind the TT decks again but this time with a whole hour to himself.
