A Passionate Storm this New Year's Eve

As two of the best loved and important British clubbing brands, Storm and Passion have been rocking the Midlands for many a year. Teaming up to make sweet music together would be a special day, any day, but even more so if it’s New Year’s Eve. To celebrate, the promotions team behind these clubbing forces got together to answer some burning questions.
Hi I’m Gio, resident and promoter of Nu:Passion at The Emporium, and I’m sat here in the Emporium office with officially the youngest promotion team The Emporium has ever known in the form of Damion “Genix” Houchen and Jimmy “The Side Parting” Dean.
Hello Chaps...
Jimmy: Hello mate.
Damion: Hello Gio Gio Gio!
For anybody that doesn’t already know about you both, could you give us some background on how you both have come to end up promoting two of the biggest nights in the country at one of best clubs in the world?
Jimmy: I started work here as a glass collector just over 10 years ago and sort of worked my way up to the position of Resident DJ and Events Co-ordinator. Now I work in an office with Scrooge! (Damo doesn’t like Christmas) and your good self.
(Gio Shakes head disappointingly at Damo)
Damion: Well to be honest I never set out to become a promoter. I’ve been working within music production and DJing for ten years now and working in promotions for the past four years or so. I’ve been lucky enough to work with some of the country’s best promoters and can now say that I can stand on my own two feet and put on some big events because of it. It’s an honour to be at the helm of such a prestigious brand and I will do all I can to maintain it by featuring the biggest names possible.
Passion vs Storm parties are always legendary, as are New Year’s Eve productions at The Emporium but what clubbers can expect to see and hear this New Year’s Eve?
Jimmy: Well, for quite a while now Storm has been in the main room on New Year’s Eve, so myself and Damo decided to usher in the return of Passion to the main room with Storm in the Red Room. Judging by the ticket sales it was the right decision, (although Damo thinks they’re all coming to see him!!! Weeeer )
Damion: We are on course to sell out this event - so those who know exactly what our club is like with all the arenas open, already know they are in for a huge night. If you haven’t been before then expect the best atmosphere in the country, the best dance music along with some really friendly people (and Jimmy Dean)!
With the new look promotions team what does the future hold for Passion, Storm and the Emporium?
Jimmy: I’d like to think we’re not actually the ‘New Look’ promotions team, we have both been here doing the job for many years.
We’ve both been working really hard to be honest (well I have any way!),
(At this point a rolled up paper ball is fired at Jimmy)
We have introduced many new features such as £10 (or less) advance Storm ticket sales to help out during the recession. Then there’s the Storm 4 Cast Video which gives clubbers that haven’t been to the club an insight into what The Emporium is about.
There are things like the birthday guest lists, event text updates, podcasts and much more. Mainly we aim to carry on inventing new features and making clubbing more fun and accessible for clubbers! Or if your name is Genix – pissing about eating sweets and drinking green sh!t tea all day!
Damion: Sweets! The only one munching is you mate! It actually means that I have to sit next to Jimmy in the office every day and listen to how much he thinks all the women fancy him and all his other pipe dreams!
On a serious note, I think we are both very enthusiastic and we are always thinking of new ways to get our point across to the clubbers. We put a lot of effort into delivering the best line ups we can and I can tell you now we have some truly huge events booked in for 2010! So watch this space, all will be revealed New Year’s Eve!
What do you think makes The Emporium different to other super clubs in the country?
Jimmy: Ahh, that one’s easy! The People. Clubbers know what they are going to get when they come here. The layout of the club is extremely important too, there are so many different rooms and areas to go and explore, it’s not your average run of the mill club with four walls and a DJ box!
Damion: The fact that Storm’s promoter and resident DJ doubles up as Tin Tin! The number one thing is the atmosphere. If you ask any clubber or DJ then they will tell you that it is special.
As DJs / Producers what plans and productions have you got coming up?
Jimmy: Lots and lots mate. I’ve just had two EPs released, one on Deprivation and one on Toolbox and I’ve been in the studio a lot just recently – There’s a full list of what’s coming out when, plus a free mix on www.jimmy-dean.co.uk. Gigwise I have many sets in the UK booked in for 2010 plus a return to Ibiza for myself and Storm alongside gigs across Europe and Canada.
Damion: I have gigs in Russia, the USA and across Europe in the pipeline along with a return to the Ministry of Sound in London and gigs across the UK. On the production front I have tracks on Armada and Spinnin on the way. There’s also some cool remixes which have been sounding great in my DJ sets at Passion! Check out www.djgenix.co.uk
Thank you Damo and Jimmy we look forward to seeing and hearing you at The Emporium on New Year’s Eve and in 2010!
Damion: Thanks for reading the interview! Although it may be a strange read! Haha! Keep supporting us in 2010, The Emporium is a truly unique and very special venue. Have a great Christmas and see you all for a massive New Year’s Eve party!
Jimmy: Thanks for taking the time to read the interview guys. Whilst I have your attention I would like all clubbers to acknowledge the immense pressure that promoters in the UK have been under throughout the biggest recession in history. Whether it be a small local bar or a giant global festival the devotion, hard work and Passion to continue through the Storm is testament to their love for music. Love you all Jimmy Dean x
Thanks for your time guys and see you New Year’s Eve! Come on Passion / Storm!
