Label: Hard On
Format: 12" Vinyl
Genre: Trance/Hard Trance

This is the first tune on Hard On Records I have picked up for a while, and what a belter it is!! Produced by Anjunabeats/Above and Beyond Legends Jono Grant and Paavo Siljamaki , this was another one of my "blind" buys, based purely on the producers, and suffice to say I was not dissappointed.

So onto the a side and the original mix, where Fans of the Above and beyond sound will instantly recognise the tough, crisp, compressed kick and silky percussion during a strangely short 2 loop intro before the bassline kicks in, and what a bassline!! Very fat and driving without being too bassy, it sits somewhere between a trance bassline and a hard house bassline, pounding the ears as it grunts along in the mix, driving the track along towards the first mini break, where the vocodered Storm vocal is introduced, with a little break beaty section which gives the floor a little respite before kicking back in with that bassline again. It is a little german sounding in places, with just a kick drum and bassline, before adding in some nice layers of percussion which give the track more rhythm.

Then the tune continues to pound along, adding in layers of FX, more percussion and a funky little sub melody before we hit the first break, where the storm vocal comes back in, and then we are hit with a fantastic uplifting melody, which while guaranteeing to get those hands in the air, also keeps things serious enough to avoid being over the top and cheesy, something which the Anjunabeats boys seem to have got down to a tee. The melody builds to a peak, and then the storm vocal, and yes here comes that bassline again, driving and pounding its way through some wicked key changes which along with the meolody take you into euphoric trance heaven!! Things then calm down a bit before kicking back into the break once more and then a nice dj friendly 4 loop outro.

As for the B-side, which is the Jono Grant vs POS mix, well I listened to it halfway through and it wasnt a patch on the A-side, which is tops. Thats all you need to know - its all about the original mix with this one.

You can probably tell that I am a big fan of this tune - it is hard enough to be included in a hard warm up set, yet not so much that it alienates the trancier dj's out there, and is an ideal tune to play if you are looking to toughen things up a bit - very K-90 ish in fact. Cant wait to hear it on a club system.

If I had a criticism, then it would be that it is not exactly the most original track ever released, but then, it does the job on the dancefloor and that is the main thing. Buy it!!

I'm a bit ambivalent about this tune really, it doesn't really decide what kind of tune it is IMO and not in a good way. It works on a dance floor though.
